Staycation Halfway Point
Apr. 10th, 2019 08:52 amJanuary through March are my busy periods at work, and I hadn't had a vacation since October. So I decided to take a week off work. I didn't actually want to spend the money to go somewhere on my own, so I planned for a staycation. Which is an awful portmanteau, but words are what they are.
The main reason I took this week was that I had a tattoo appointment on Saturday and I figured that taking time off with a nasty crusty scabby arm was probably too good a coincidence to pass up. That went swimmingly. Four and half hours face down while he worked on my forearm. Lots of straight lines (it is a grid, after all) and the bits around the elbow were really painful. My favorite part is when the various other artists came over to check out the work and said some variation of "I'm glad I didn't have to do something that intricate."
My initial plan was to just to spend my days off reading and writing. In March I got involved with someone who watches Game of Thrones. So I decided to activate a free HBO Go seven day trial through Amazon so I could get caught up with the seasons that I'd missed (5-7). That didn't take long, really.
I watched Season 5 on Sunday and she came over that night and we watched the first episode or two before we went to bed. Then we spent all day Monday chilling on the couch (or in the bed) while we watched Season 6. That was a fantastic day - easily one of the top ten or twenty days I've ever had. I finally had to kick her out just before midnight on Monday night because she has work to do. And we were both very sore.
I finished Season 7 yesterday, then went across the street to catch a showing of Captain Marvel at the Drunkhouse. After viewing number three, I'm okay to not see it again for a while, but if a movie is playing across the street from my house, I try to take advantage of the convenience.
Today, I'm going for a long walk down to Pentagon City. I have dinner and a movie in Gaithersburg with a friend tonight, but I might actually sit down and watch something on HBO while I have the free trial activated.
I also have some issues of Heavy Metal to scan and read (rinse, repeat) that I'd like to get caught up on. But those are all potential plans. For now, it's laundry and shower time.
